Today it seems fitting to share with you how I have been using ‘Emotional Intelligence’ to make the wintry weather ‘made easy’! As many of you already know – PS Life Can Be Easy is soon to offer its latest home study course ‘Emotional Intelligence Made Easy’.
If you are not already aware – emotional intelligence is about understanding how to become aware of our emotions and feelings, at any given time. To explain, there are six main negative emotions within us; Apathy, Grief, Fear, Lust, Anger and Pride and then there are three main positive ones, Courage, Acceptance and Peace.
Now you may well wonder what this has to do with wintry weather.
When our routine and plans are challenged this can become stressful to us as our resistance to accept change kicks in. When our plans come to a halt it can throw our feelings into turmoil and disarray. This is because our ego tells us we are no longer in control of the situation. The truth is, we never are in control, our ego just likes to think it is and when it is challenged it throws a tantrum causing us to feel angry, frustrated and helpless. The Ego will try to convince us that if we find a solution quickly and get ‘’back in control’’ all will be well.
Feeling out of control or feeling fearful can drop us into any one of the six negative emotions already mentioned; Apathy, Grief, Fear, Lust ( that’s wanting things, not necessarily sexual lust), Anger and Pride. This causes us stress, anxiety, worry and at worst illness. It is the opposite of the positive emotional states – Courageousness, Acceptance and Peace which are our natural wellness and happiness states.
So when our plans and routines are challenged, we have a choice. We can either, accept the situation, be philosophical and work around the obstacle thus allowing us to stay in C.A.P (Courageousness, Acceptance and Peace).Or we allow the frustration anger, disapproval, complaining, blaming others and situations resulting in us feeling the AGFLAP emotions. So now folks here are the real benefits – you will be more successful, happy and fulfilled in any situation, if you learn to stay in C.A.P rather than A.G.F.L.A.P. That’s not to say you will not drop into A.G.F.L.A.P every now and again but your success in life will depend on NOT staying in A.G.F.L.A.P, for any length of time.
So how do we do that? By surrendering our desire to control things, situations and choosing to let go. The solution is so utterly simple - choosing to let go. The challenge is recognising that our ego (our minds) would have us believe we are better off trying to control – Wrong!
But can you see the good news? If you can recognise when you drop into A.G.F.L.A.P and choose to let go – you immediately ‘let go’ of negativity and reach the higher positive state of C.A.P. It is when we learn how to remain in C.A.P at any given situation – yes even life or death, we can create the results we want to have. So can you see how, by understanding Emotional Intelligence, we can set the goals we want, manage our time effectively and create the results we want in anything, anywhere in any given situation.
Once we realise this and live by the disciplines, life becomes a breeze. Always remember, it is by understanding emotional intelligence that we can choose how to react to any given challenge that we can turn even the direst circumstance into a positive one for ourselves. Whether it is being able to remain calm, drop fears, recover from illness - whatever.
This is why even corporate business is now very open to Emotional Intelligence. It helps us understand our selves; it helps us understand others too so that human beings can all work together more effectively and harmoniously too. It is as simple as being able to recognise our feelings – linking to the emotion, letting go the attachment to it and getting back into C.A.P – Courage is the opposite of Fear. Acceptance is the opposite of resistance (wanting to control). Love, peace and tranquillity are the ultimate being states for human beings, allowing us to be free from anxiety, fear and illness.
Isn’t it wonderful to know we all have this choice – we only have to be aware and know how to apply the techniques? It’s the best gift we could give our self and all those we care about.
Come to think of it – couldn’t this be the ultimate Christmas present? Now who was it that offered peace on earth and goodwill to all men?
