How healthy and well do you feel right now?

Stress is rife these days as many people cope with doom and gloom about the economy, the fallout of the euro and its impact on the rest of us. People are worried about jobs, retirement funds and having less money to spend. I'll stop there!

So have you asked yourself this,” How will I come through all of these changes? How will I cope?  How worried or indifferent should I feel about my future right now?”

Well folks there are two ways we can approach this-we can either allow negativity to get on top of us, become worried and stressed, or we can learn how to keep positive and I don't mean just thinking positively either.

Our bodies and existence are made up of energy. Positive energy and negative energy. The more positive energy we produce within us, the easier it is to think positively. That is why it serves us best to work on our positive energy so that positive thinking becomes natural and easy rather than a constant discipline to follow for survival.

So let's take a look at what contributes to positive energy within us. Here are some of the more obvious ones;

  • Diet and nutrition
  • Laughter and fun
  • Rest and relaxation
  • Physical exercise that we enjoy
  • Quality sleep
  • Have a clear plan of what you wish to achieve and stay focused

Then there are the less obvious ones, but which are equally important;

  • Know how to de-stress yourself
  • Avoid absorbing negativity and worry from other people
  • Avoid absorbing too much media doom and gloom (some people avoid this altogether)
  • Acknowledge all you are grateful for in life. While it won’t eliminate your challenges in one fell swoop, it will certainly help to diminish them.
  • Remember to be kind to yourself. I don't just mean treating yourself, but avoid beating yourself up, self judging, regretting and doubting all that you do. It is extremely energy draining and unhealthy.

It took me a long time to discover (and be able to) love and accept myself for who I am. I used to think this was being conceited and that that was somehow ‘wrong’. Now I know differently.

Our ego will judge, blame, even dish out guilt to us if we allow it to. It always wants to hold us back from succeeding. This may surprise you, as arrogant people can often seem egotistical. Usually these people feel afraid and their behaviour is to self protect from outside harm, rather than necessarily meaning to upset others.

When you are kind to yourself internally, you boost your self-esteem, confidence and natural energy. When we boost our positive energy, thinking positively happens naturally and lasts for longer. How to do this can be found in a subject called Emotional Intelligence. It helps us to generate our own natural energy consistently and keep negative stress to a minimum.

If we work on our positive energy, we will cope with challenges like the economy, job prospects and retirement funds so much better. When we can do this we keep our stress levels at a minimum, which allows us to be more productive, free of worry and more satisfied as a person.

When we are able to do this we are able to create the life we wish for ourselves. It's called taking charge of our lives by looking after our health and well-being. More on this next week

Meanwhile enjoy this one!
