Continuing our autumn blog theme of looking at the biggest challenges facing us right now: “How to fit everything into our day -when there is so much to do?" Some call it time management.
Last year I wrote a course on our approach to time and how we can get more things done easily without being stretched. I researched different people's definition of time-what it meant to them, how it affected them and how they used it. The most heart stopping moment for me was the statement-"There is no such thing as time". That time is all an illusion. Challenging as it was to understand (never mind accept!) I now get it and use this learning to great effect.
Gone for me, is the constant clock watching, feeling under pressure and worrying about being “late". And do you know what? I now get more done, feel less stressed and don't even clock watch half the time. I'll share with you what I learned:
Managing our time is about managing ourselves and only we can do that. We just need to make the decision. It's all about focus, not getting distracted by less important issues and tasks and trusting that if we achieve what we set out to, what doesn't get done usually doesn't matter.
And the payoff to all of this? We get more done easily of what we want and much less of what doesn't matter, to the point "time" almost becomes unimportant, it's just what it is.
Here's what I discovered, works:
- Write down the night before what you want to achieve for the next day.
- Believe and see the task accomplished easily -then fall asleep relaxed in that knowledge.
- Next morning approach the tasks with a light fun energy-why? Well why not? When you know it will all fall into place without fuss, enjoy the task. It will all just work out.
- Do the same the next evening and keep doing it every night. Your success and achievement becomes self-perpetuating
If you already know this-this is a reminder. If this concept is new to you-you can learn more about how it's done in my time management made easy-details tomorrow.
When we learn that we all procrastinate, even subconsciously, and how to stop, then everything we do gets done more easily. We achieve more effortlessly. We have more "Me time" for ourselves and nothing important gets neglected.
It's called going with the flow (of time) rather than being a slave to it. It's what nature intended for us, we have just lost touch with the knowledge and forget to do it.
Try it for yourself-more to come on this!
Have a great week
