Personal Development: Designing the Life you want

There was a time when I only set goals that I believed were achievable – how ridiculous was that? That was before I discovered personal development.

I have always been a curious combination of optimism with caution. I called it my 80/20 rule. 80% believed I could create the life I wanted, 20% would bring the ‘what ifs’ the ‘maybe nots’ or even the ‘now you are being greedy wanting all that’ – you know? All those little voices in my head.

Looking back, I can’t say the 20% stopped me reaching the goals I had set but it certainly made the journey of achieving the 80% more arduous than it needed to be.

This was because back then, I knew nothing about setting goals down on paper, visualising the result and releasing on any unhealthy emotional attachment ‘need’ for my result.

Back then I just set my intention in my mind and saw the end result in my head. Yes I got there, I renovated two run down properties this way and set myself up financially in the process. But to be honest there was always a certain amount of struggle, especially if others I cared about doubted the project more than I did.

This is where 80/20 comes into play. 80% knew I could do it, 20% were the clouds as I call it! And yes, they occasionally produced the cold downpour of negativity – trying to rain on my parade. But then when I got over it, the sun came out from behind the clouds – my 80% optimism – and it shined more brightly than before.

Anyway this is what has propelled me through life until a few years ago and got me to a fine financial security destination I have to admit.

However I have discovered a much easier, less fraught way to achieve my goals that I’d like to share with you this week. Many of you are familiar with the P.S. Life Can Be Easy products, Goals Made Easy™, Time Management Made Easy™, Emotional Intelligence Made Easy™ and the latest one, Success Made Easy™.

It’s no coincidence I have spent the past year writing these programmes to help others like you achieve your dreams more easily. I did it for a number of reasons:

  1. I know it works
  2. People like you were looking for these product titles to help them get on in life
  3. They all work in a combination – a sort of family of tools covering all areas of life both personal and professionally.

What’s more my wife and boys as well as clients and customers all use them to get through life more enjoyably, proving that life really can be easy!

But  here is my point – before I discovered personal development, I got my results, achieved my targets using 80/20 – the only way I knew how. Now in my more enlightened state (!) this formula has reached 100% knowing and believing rather than 80%. Why? Because I worked on the drivers behind my 20%.  Ok, even on a bad day it only falters to 97/3% but with the tools and techniques I use and offer in my products, the 97/3 becomes only a stumble instead of a “wrong turn” on the path to financial success, freedom and total satisfaction in life.

Admittedly, a glance at the news or catching a newspaper headline will always try to challenge me as it seems to be a constant diet of doom and gloom on the economy, our chances of affording retirement, staying well and having any chance of  being problem free or  finding happiness at all! Good one!

Then I realised that none of the writers behind those articles, columns and stories have discovered personal development and so they don’t know what is possible – so I immediately switch off from their negativity (or hidden agenda) as I refuse to let others’ pessimism hinder my life.

Sure, this doesn’t change reality out there but it does change my perception of it and my attitude towards it, negative news in life, of all sorts.

And do you know what? When we avoid hanging around negativity, positive ness reigns! When positive ness reigns, everything is possible, probable and achievable.

This is way beyond positive thinking, this is positive reality which can be designed, acquired and enjoyed by you. Here is what I have discovered through my own Personal Development:

  • Know what it is that you would like to have or achieve and if you are not sure, work on it until you find out
  • Accept that you are deserving of it (this can be a big obstacle for many people). Overcome nagging doubts
  • Believe your goal is entirely probable – this makes it more than likely

If all this seems simplistic, that is because it is – once you know how. This is why I share my knowledge in my products and mentoring and why I feel like sharing with you today. Thanks for reading.

Have a great week
