Have you achieved a goal this way?

Today is a milestone! I will achieve a goal I never imagined I would, but having done it, it seems I was meant to do it all along. Do you recognize this feeling?

It’s a strange feeling but a good one. I say that because on the one hand I never thought I would complete such a project on my own. You know the usual – I couldn’t do that, others would do it better – so what’s the point? Will I know enough about my subject? Why would others be interested in my efforts, when they can get it on the internet already?

On the other hand, it all seems and feels like it was meant to be; a degree of inevitability. After all while the whole challenge seemed like, ‘Well it would be good if I could do it’ or else it will turn out to be another of my dreams I do not quite got around to activating.

But then, that does not rest with me either because when I break down each section of the task, I have done each one before, albeit when I was younger. The planning, the writing, the recording and creating new exercises I had all done before but never quite pulled them all together for one result. Then there is the application and the delivery, all of which I learned to do reasonably well when I was younger. It was fun to resurrect old hobbies; it’s been a sort of déjà-vu.

The next level of application came from skills I have learned more recently; all the ‘techy stuff’ required. I was forty five before I knew I could hold a mouse in my right hand without it scurrying off into a hole in fright!

Right now I am smiling when I think of Scots poet, Robert Burns and his world famous poem, ‘Tae a moose’. (To a mouse) written three hundred years ago.

Sorry I digress!

So back to this morning’s strange feeling; have you ever sat down and completed something you never imagined you would do, or would manage to do? Yet at the same time there is no real reason why you would not do it – could not do it. This is where the sense of inevitability comes in. That, ‘meant to be feeling’ – that you were the right person in the moment for the task all along.

Then there’s even more fun when I remember a clairvoyant telling me, eight years ago, I would do this. But of course I did not take it seriously! You know that memory, ‘Well I like the idea of doing what she said I would do, but thought I was nuts if I started leading my life according to a clairvoyant!’ Of course I wouldn’t dream of telling my friends I had gone to see a clairvoyant….hey this is Scotland!

Maybe there is something magical of being in my early to mid fifties. A time when all the learning comes together to form a rich sense of accomplishment and satisfaction in life. Or maybe I am an entrepreneur at heart but take longer than other entrepreneurs to get there! Like 8 years later!  Well, “better to arrive late than not arrive at all” as they say.

Late at 53? Ridiculous – I tell myself, I am just coming into my prime – with everything! Ego perhaps, but sure beats going to the doctor for a cure!

I am talking entrepreneurialism here – you know when one takes risk and initiative in an attempt to make profit. Well I will admit, I am willing to make profit with this latest project, but sitting here pushing my pen, it is not easy to describe the pleasure, sense of achievement and satisfaction I feel having got this far. What’s even better is that this can all be done again; if I wish – which I do.

The pleasure comes from the fact that it would appear I have done a very decent job of the finished article, according to others. My sense of achievement from the fact I devised it on my own and the satisfaction of knowing I can turn it into cash very soon. We have all got bills to pay!

So the reason I am telling you all this is because I would love to hear from you, if you have experienced something similar. What have you achieved quite unexpectedly?  What gave you that sense of “I have arrived in life”? What has quite astounded you when you realised, you could do it after all? And not only that but far far better than you had realized and sufficiently well to get great comments from others too. (By people who know what they are talking about).

Oh by the way – did I tell you what it is that I have just achieved? Whoops! I am running late for a meeting, but promise I will share more next week. You are going to love this – because you will really benefit from knowing more, honestly.

Meanwhile have this from George Elliot… “You are never too late to do what you really want to do”

In my case it’s reassuring to know!
