Life is full of new experiences and learning for all of us. Admittedly, some of them can be more welcome than others depending on how willing we are to learn. Some of us spend a life time worrying about “what ifs” and making mistakes; afraid of getting it wrong. Others plunge headlong into situations; only to create trouble for themselves. They only learn by making mistakes first.
There isn’t a right or wrong here but the two behavioural patterns are very different which can result in different personalities and produces quite different learning. I recently read a book and was happy to be reminded that all life is about, is discovering who we really are and being true to ourselves. We can only hope to discover the truth about who we really are, if we observe our reactions and patterns to any given situations and be honest with what we witness. When we stop being honest with what we witness, then we stop being true to ourselves.
We betray our inner authority, our core essence, our ‘I am’. This results in an inner conflict, as the betrayal of the self begins to weigh heavily upon us and in turn, upsets our inner peace.
Now, all this seems very straight forward until we accept that we do not always realise we are betraying ourselves. Fear of seeing the truth, admitting our mistakes or seeing another person’s point of view can all provide us with a blind spot to discovering who we really are.
We can only know who we really are when we take life head on and experience as much of it as possible, so that we learn how to react, ignore or accept every individual experience. If something upsets us, it is a chance to let go emotional attachment or ‘feelings’ around it. If someone is being untruthful, betraying their own ‘truth’ then it is a chance to accept them for what and who they are anyway. Fighting against this is to fight within ourselves. However, by going through the experience, is to understand how we feel and react to every experience and only then can we get to know who we really are.
True happiness lies within us when we have discovered who we really are by exposing ourselves to all our learning in life. It is that state of knowing that brings us the peace we all seek.
The next time you face something unwelcome or unpleasant; remember that it is only a chance to learn who you really are. It takes away the pain and puts things into perspective. It is part of life’s ‘journey’, it is another chance to discover, the real you.
Have fun
