Today I thought I would share with you what many of us consider to be 5 great ways to make the most of your summer. In no particular order, these ideas are proven to give us a midsummer boost to make us feel better, enjoy ourselves so that when we look back, we see that we made the most of the longest daylight days of the year.
Read an inspirational ‘books’:
Walk into any bookstore and the choice of autobiographies is endless. You can choose from self help: Jack Canfield - Chicken Soup for the Soul, Louise Hay - How to Heal Your Life. Or read about someone else’s battle to overcome adversity: Nelson Mandela – A long Walk to Freedom or Lance Armstrong – It’s not about the Bike. Or for some business inspiration Alan Sugar – What you see is what you get. Duncan Bannatyne – Anyone Can Do It.
Books have a wonderful way of inspiring us to press on, look to another way or simply makes us realise we have more going for us than we first thought.
Take stock of your year so far:
Summer is a great milestone in the sense it is the ideal time to look at your plans for the year, what have you managed to do so far? What remains to be done? Are you feeling satisfied with your progress, or disappointed things did not go according to plan?
Don’t be discouraged, everyone gets blown off track occasionally, it happens. Accept it, don’t beat yourself up and move on. By refocusing you will feel better about today and make the most of tomorrow.
Do something different, new and rewarding:
New experiences or visits inspire and uplift us. The other day my wife and I walked the shores of Loch Lomond on our anniversary and then had dinner overlooking the Lake of Menteith as the sun went down. It was different in that we checked the forecast, decided on the spur of the moment and just did it!
Summer gives us the chance to make the most of seasonal opportunities – often outdoors and free!
What haven’t you done yet? Where haven’t you visited? Which sport have you always wanted to try but not got round to it? What did friends ask you to do but you couldn’t say yes at the time?
Be daring, be different! Stimulate you’re endorphins and enjoy!
Look on the bright side:
Let’s face it, nobody liked having to face endless problems and challenges as it can make us feel down, despondent and discouraged.
The most successful people I work with all manage to see the bright side of any given situation. Right down to serious illness.
They always take the view that everything happens for a reason, even if we don’t always understand why at the time.
Boost your energy:
Take time and take stock. This is a great time of year to build up your energy reserves, physically, energetically and emotionally. Decide what will give you the lift that you need – is it a diet, rethink your vitamin supplements – more exercise or some quiet time to empty the mind and tap into your inner genius.
Whichever is relevant, beneficial and timely for you, be good to yourself and your body. It is after all your vehicle for life. Service it well and it will service you well to!
Well I hope you have found these thought provoking and useful.
I will return to my blog in September, meanwhile I look forward to sharing the latest news at P.S. Life Can Be Easy next week in a short newsletter.
Until then,
Have a great week
Billy
